Fall Trends We're Loving

In the world of window dressing and décor, it seems that autumn is the season for abundance. There is a ton of color in every shade possible with the usual emphasis on the gold, yellows, oranges, and deep plums that match the colors of the season. There is also a lot “weight” added with fall window dressings too. This is because the season tends to be colder and transitions quickly from a summer-like light to the darker days that take the world into winter weather.

This year we have seen a lot of unique trends developing, but there are three that we are crazy about. Furthermore, here they are:

  • Bands of color – in the past, there has been a lot of use of heavy patterns and prints where autumnal window dressings were concerned. Cornucopias, heavy paisley, and broad stripes were the norm in the past. And though they were lovely they could also be somewhat overwhelming on larger windows. This season there is an emphasis on unique combinations of color that create a very bold statement.

For instance, think of a pale aqua linen with a strong band of chocolate brown linen along the bottom. This sort of modern esthetic works wonders in a room and can be used to assert the season quite effectively. We’ve seen someone with an all white palette and lightweight linen curtains replace them with these banded beauties to create an instant impact.

  • Solid shades – rather than hanging window dressings at all, we’re seeing many opt to spotlight moldings and the scene outside of the window by using a boldly colored shade. When the shade is a honeycomb model it can work just as well as curtains to insulate against the cooler temperatures, while it also allows for a real blast of color and life in the room as well. We’ve also seen a creamy yellow wall with a bold turquoise shade, a pumpkin hued wall with a brilliant red shade, and many more. This can really clean up a room while making it full of energy, but subtle hues work beautifully as well, and even white on white is a hot trend we tend to like.
  • Natural materials – during the autumn months we find ourselves bringing nuts, leaves, and other natural materials into the home. Why not carry that trend to windows. We’ve loved finding the many natural reeds and woven blinds, the woven linen panels, and the natural prints appearing in many settings. Absolutely beautiful!

We hope we have inspired you with our favorite trends and that you soon use some of them to spruce up your fall decor.
