With a bit of creativity and effort, you can make great curtain rods. Here are some ideas.

Making curtain rods can actually be a lot of fun. It also allows you to express yourself in a subtle, but noticeable, way. With the right blinds or shutters, your curtain rod will really stand out!

Bring Some Nature Inside

If you want a great, natural look for your home, consider using branches to make curtain rods. Don’t worry about them not being perfectly straight. It actually adds to the charm. To make sure you can pull the draperies closed fully, trim down any large notches on the branch before putting it up. Paint, stain or other treatments can really bring out the beauty.

Sporting Items

You can use a hockey stick to make a curtain rod for someone who loves the game. Shower curtain hooks work very well to provide the hanging mechanism. This is a great way to dress up a room with a bit of style. A hockey stick will provide you with a very durable curtain rod, as well.

Go Industrial

Floor flanges and pipes can be used to make great looking curtain rods. Use adapters or boiler valves to join the flange to the pipe. The flanges are very durable and when used with anchors, they’ll provide plenty of support for heavy curtains. You can use steel clamps for the curtain rings as well.

Decorative Ends

You can use any type of ornament to decorate the end of a curtain rod. One great combination involves fishing lures on the ends of a bamboo fishing rod, which makes a great curtain rod itself. You can use glue to affix the lures, giving your home—or cabin—a great outdoorsy feel.

Window Treatments

Curtains can really dress up a room, but the right blinds and shutters can do more than that. Blinds and shutters can provide some insulation, making your home more comfortable, whether they’re shutting out a chilly wind or keeping the hot summer sun at bay.
