Even before Halloween arrives the change in weather gets us thinking about the upcoming spooky season. Though many people put an emphasis on the “harvest theme” with their October decor, we love the whole Halloween spirit. So, in honor of that spirit, we’d like to give you a list of some quick and clever ways to “spookify” your home decor this season.

  1. Easy Halloween Tablecloth – go online and search for “Halloween silhouettes”. You will find ravens, cats, witches, pumpkins, and more. Choose one figure that you really like and then save it. Use the pattern to create a template from which you cut out a line or row of figures. This will be fixed to the edges of a long tablecloth or piece of Halloween colored felt. For instance, imagine your hall table covered in a pumpkin orange cloth with a parade of hissing cats!
  2. Black Birds everywhere – this is the season for black birds, and you will be amazed at the numbers of artificial black birds you can find in craft stores. Buy full-sized models to perch all over the house or on the banister, on the tables, you can even make a “bonsai” of birds using a black painted planter, a spooky old stick, and an array of small birds.
  3. Reflect on ghostly matters – why gaze at yourself when you can doll up all of the mirrors in your house with ghosts and goblins. Draw the template to fit your mirror and then apply a crepe paper ghost. This makes the few days of Halloween celebrations fun, and lets you ignore your hair!
  4. Spiders and webs – you can create a massive spider to greet visitors by purchasing two foam balls at the local craft store. Buy one for the body and one for the head. Paint them black and join them with a dowel in the center. Use pipe cleaners to make eight fuzzy legs and then string spider webbing (available almost everywhere) all around the front entrance. You can also use this same “houseguest” on chandeliers too.
  5. Glorious chairs – purchase a roll of black netting and wrap your dining chairs with it. Tie it all up with black silk ribbons or brilliant orange ribbons, and create stylish and totally seasonal seating.

Have fun with Halloween decor. It comes only once a year and is such fun!
