design trends 2014As you ring in the new year, you will find that many design trends will not cross the threshold at midnight and 2014 will welcome many new concepts and ideas in interior design. Some hot new items to look out for include the following:

Color

The last few years, interior design has really used neutral wall colors in order to create a modern, clean look. 2014 will say, "Bye bye" to the soft subtle hues and "Hello" to loud colors like yellow! People are calling out for more pops of color on not only the walls, but in fabrics as well. Think bright and bold if you are looking to redecorate that guest room!

Pattern and Texture

Just as color is moving away from neutral, cold, and modern are not what people are going to see in interior design for 2014. Pattern and texture will be huge this year, playing on peoples “touchy- feely” side, stimulating their desire for comfort. Two types of patterns seem to be making their impression this year, designs that remind you of your grandmother’s floral curtains, teacups, as well as more bold designs, such as large geometric patterns. Another great to do this is by bringing in roman shades. Not only do they offer function, but they bring texture into your home!

Ethnic

Think Spain, Mexico, and Africa! Primary-colored wall hangings and old-world fabrics are creating bold focal points in the home for 2014. Many home décor stores are carrying an assortment of items that bring a more ethnic feel into the home, warming up those bold yellow walls. Use accents including Jacksonville blinds, pillows, and wall decor to convey your style.

Space

Most people have one grandparent or another who never seemed to get of anything,  and décor ends up in every corner of every room in the house. No shelf unadorned. Next year is certainly not bringing that back (if it was ever in, in the first place?). Think clean, simplistic decoration making your home feel larger and more airy. Your new year’s resolution could simply be to de-clutter your home and find ways to bring the eye up, making your rooms feel larger. A great way to do this is with window fixtures! Jacksonville blinds, shades, or shutters can help streamline your home, making it feel more simplistic and clean.

Handmade/Craft

The year of 2013 has brought about the love for crafting, while 2014 will decipher the truly talented from the not so crafty folk. The crafts and handmade items that people will want in their homes this year will require more refined skills and truly make a break with those attempting an at-home project and those who truly know how to make artistic pieces.

Resort Modern

Think: relaxation meets modern. A great way to achieve this ambiance through décor in your home includes the use of more subtle hues such as blues, greens, and grays. Artwork includes pieces of colored glass or even large pieces of driftwood hung on the walls. Keep window treatments neutral and sleek, such as Jacksonville blinds, including bamboo shades or even plantation shutters.

Romance

The year of 2014 is continuing to push jewel tones that bring out your personality, whether more feminine or masculine. You can use colors, layered pattern, and texture to create visual interest, as well as a comfortable, warm feeling. The goal to generate a feeling of comfort and sensuality. Use warm velvety pillows to line your couch and experiment with various patterns! Window treatments including Jacksonville blinds can also help convey your style and mood.

Mother Nature

How can you bring the outside in? No, you should not bring in silk plants, but figure out how to cleverly bring in elements of the outside in. You could create a living herb garden out of a wall mounted book shelf in your kitchen with various herbs that are not only functional for cooking, but also stimulate your sense of smell and visual interest! Bamboo shades are another way to bring a touch of the outside in, with neutral tones.

Great things are bound to happen in 2014 and with all the stellar interior design trends that are about to descend, you really do have your pick of awesome ideas. No matter if you are someone who likes modern looks or a more traditional look, the top trends of the upcoming year are bound to please!
