Most people feel the physical and mental effects of stress every day, often without realizing it. Whether you are stressed because of work, school, or any other personal obligations or anxieties, that stress can deplete your energy and actually contribute to many different illnesses. In order to reduce your stress, it is important to have a sanctuary where you can relax and recharge. Your bedroom should be this space where you can retreat after a long day and feel soothed and comforted. Here are just a few tips for creating a more relaxing bedroom.

Choose Tranquil Colors

There are some colors that stimulate, while there are others that calm. While it can be tempting to create a dynamic bedroom with bright and bold colors to show off your personality, these colors may be doing you a disservice if you are unable to relax. It is important to choose colors that you find both appealing and soothing and incorporate those colors throughout the room. Popular tranquil colors include rich browns, deep greens, and cool blues. It can help to find bedding with a pattern or color that you love, and then work to find other pieces that match your bedding.

Organization and Flow

Whether you agree with design techniques such as feng shui or not, which deals with the idea of energy flow in a room, there is strong evidence to suggest that the way your bedroom is organized can affect your mood. In order to create a relaxing bedroom, it is important to eliminate clutter, and increase the function of the bedroom. The room should work to facilitate your needs. This means you need to invest in a bed that is comfortable, have easy access and walkways to your bed, and have bedside tables or nightstands that are conveniently placed and at the right height.

Proper Lighting

Lighting is very important when it comes to creating a relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom. While you do want enough light so that you do not need to strain your eyes, it is important that the light not be too bright. Utilize natural light as much as possible in the bedroom. However, if a lot of natural light filters into the bedroom, it can be useful to have shutters or a window treatment that can block that light when it is not needed. The key is to create a warm and inviting space that personally makes you feel comfortable and at ease.
