Easy Holiday Decorating Projects

Decorating for the holidays does not have to be expensive. In fact, some of the best decorating ideas of all are very affordable, and sometimes almost free.

Candle Bottles

If you have old wine bottles lying around, they make excellent candleholders. As a bonus, they tend to look even better when you’ve been using them for a long time and a great deal of wax accumulates on the sides of the bottle. Be sure to put them on a saucer or something else to keep wax from getting on surfaces.

Put a Bow on It

If you bought a bit too much wrapping paper and other wrapping supplies, you can still put it to use. Add a festive bow to pillows and you’ll get a great holiday look.

Get the Paint Out

If you want to add the appearance of snow to an artificial tree, use a bit of white paint. Spray it around the edges of the tree to give a more varied look or, if you want to make it look like there was just a blizzard, spray the whole thing.

Use Old Branches

If you have old branches lying around the yard, they can make great decorations. Paint them with your favorite colors or, to make them look like they have snow on them, use the same directions for painting an artificial tree given above.

Luminaries

Luminaries are a traditional type of Christmas lighting used in the Southwest. To make one, fill a paper bag with sand, put a candle inside of it and light it. Remember to be careful with these decorations. You can purchase regular Christmas lights and put them in the bag, as well.
